Why Choose an Apprenticeship with Scottish Water?

At Scottish Water, this isn’t just another job – it’s the start of your career. Our apprenticeships help you build the skills, knowledge, and experience you need to move forward with confidence.

You’ll face new challenges, learn on the job, and develop with the support of people who know what it takes to succeed.

What’s in It for You?

  • Earn while you learn: Get paid from day one, with clear, scheduled pay rises, plus access to a bonus and pension scheme
  • Job security: Water is essential to life – it’s not going anywhere. That means the work we do is always in demand, giving you a career with real stability and long-term opportunities. Most of our apprentices stay with us after completing their programme, with many going on to leadership or specialist roles.
  • Make a difference: You’ll play a part in delivering essential services to communities across Scotland and help protect the environment.
  • Supportive teams: You’ll work with people who’ve got your back, making every day more rewarding.

Find Your Fit

Modern vs. Graduate Apprenticeships: we offer two types of apprenticeships, each designed to help you kickstart your career, no matter where you’re starting from:

  • Modern Apprenticeships are perfect if you’re just starting your career journey – whether you’re leaving school or changing direction. You’ll gain hands-on experience, qualifications, and earn a salary as you develop your skills and knowledge.
  • Graduate Apprenticeships are there if you want to combine earning and learning, working towards a degree while gaining practical experience. These apprenticeships provide an entry-level pathway into roles that require a specialist degree. You’ll work towards your qualification while being supported by experienced mentors, without any student debt.

Your Career, Your Way

We’re committed to helping you shape your future. Through our Skills Academy, you’ll have access to learning and development that helps you reach your goals. You’ll be supported by people who care about your progress.

Flourish in an Inclusive Environment

We value different perspectives and experiences. You’ll be part of a team where your ideas matter, and where everyone’s encouraged to do their best work.

A Note to Women Considering an Apprenticeship

We’re proud to see more women joining our apprenticeship programmes every year – but we know there’s still work to do. Women are underrepresented in some of these roles, and we’re committed to changing that.

If you’re reading this and wondering if an apprenticeship is right for you, here’s the answer: it is. Apprenticeships are for anyone with curiosity, drive, and a willingness to learn. If that sounds like you, we’d love to see you apply.

At Scottish Water, you’ll find a supportive network of women and men who’ve got your back. Whether you’re in the field, in the lab, or in the office, you’ll be part of a team that’s here to help you grow, succeed, and feel like you belong – because you do.
