We fly rainbow flag with pride for LGBT History Month

TEACHERS and staff at Dumfries High School have raised the rainbow flag to show unity with LGBTQ+ communities as the school celebrates LGBT History Month.

Throughout February the school marked LGBT History Month in a number of different ways which culminated last week in staff signing the rainbow flag.

LGBT History Month recognises the achievements and rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Ms Neil, who leads the GSA group within the school, said: “This is a symbol of the school’s support for the LGBTQ+ community. Dumfries High School is a place for everyone no matter who they are. We’re proud to promote our inclusivity and celebrate our diversity.”

The school’s ‘Gay and Straight Alliance’ (GSA Club) organised a cake and bake sale last week and Mrs Grierson, the school librarian, made some lovely ribbons with the school colours and purple to mark Transgender awareness.

These ribbons were available for sale at interval and pupils have been seen wearing them with pride.

The money raised from the ribbon sales goes toward the GSA to buy resources and equipment for Lab 11.
