Dumfries High School Can Do Project Award Ceremony

On Monday 29th April it was time for the Dumfries High School can do pupils of 2019 to receive their award certificates for completing this year’s Environmental project.

The ceremony was conducted by Olivia Robinson the Programme Coordinator for Can Do and Colin Smyth MSP who kindly came to present the certificates. Parents, staff and Freda Seddon from the Bat Group were also present.

The presentation began with Olivia going over what had been completed by them to achieve their SQA Personal Achievement Award and also their John Muir Discovery Award.

Can Do is a Leonard Cheshire programme to help pupils attain a National qualification.  In their English class they had to read and write about the outdoor environment.  This helped to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the environment whilst still contributing to their John Muir Award and National 4/5 in English.

This has been a great project with students that may not shine in a classroom setting but certainly excelled with the Can do project.  We would like thank the Leonard Cheshire organisation and Olivia for giving our students the opportunity to gain these awards and Colin Smyth MSP for taking time out of his busy schedule to come along and present our students with their certificates.
